The Romans were wonderful engineers and architects. Throughout their empire they built roads, bridges, and aqueducts (channels that bring water from a lake or river to a city). In their cities, they built temples to honor the gods, arenas for gladiatorial combat, theaters for plays and concerts, and baths where people of all classes could mingle as they cleansed themselves.
