In 12 vividly illustrated chapters, readers learn a great deal about this island country, from its geological origins to its current lifestyles. Interesting sidebars explain how Iceland and Reykjavik were named, summarize well-known Icelandic sagas, and give a recipe for herring salad, an Icelandic mainstay. The emphasis on young people and their day-to-day lives will interest young readers, as will many photographs of young people at work and play.
