The Mixtec culture supplanted the Zapotec culture that was centered in Monte Alban. The Mixtec were skilled in the arts of sculpture, ceramics, and goldsmithing and created a wealthy culture. They continued the technique, if not the style, of the Maya art of painting and writing books.
