HEALTH CANADA TO HELP MONITOR MOSQUITO VIRUS

Health Canada is co-ordinating efforts by federal, provincial and territorial ministries and key national organizations to monitor the West Nile virus during the mosquito season.

There is no evidence of the virus in Canada, but it killed seven people in the New York City area last year, including one Canadian visitor.

The virus is transmitted through mosquito bites after the insects feed on infected birds.

Most victims suffer only mild symptoms. ...
