Demand from world aid groups has led global freight forwarding giant TNT to establish the first fully commercial air express service into Dili via Darwin.
Gary Kirkman, managing director of TNT domestic and international express, said TNT had a "long history of being there in the early stages" when demand is growing in a country.
He said aid groups, in particular, "have to be able to get things in and out" as East Timor continued its transition from Indonesian rule.
