Brooks McCormick often is referred to as DuPage County's leading philanthropist and most ardent champion of environmental causes.

So friends weren't surprised to hear this week that McCormick has agreed to sell his beloved St. James Farm in Warrenville to the DuPage County Forest Preserve District as a way to ensure the sprawling 520 acres will remain open space well after his death.

Nearly 30 years ago, McCormick founded The Conservation Foundation, which has grown to serve not only DuPage, but also Kane, Kendall and Will counties.
