CHINA SILK OUTPUT BEING TORN APART BY COCOON CRISIS

China's silk industry is experiencing cocoon chaos. Soaring demand for quality silkworms is driving up prices, which could raise the costs for silk apparel and fabrics.

According to Chinese officials, demand among silkmaking factories has caused "anarchy' on the cocoon market in Jaingsu and Zhejiang provinces, two strong silk fabric producing areas. Prices have skyrocketed and speculators are making profits from differences between state and nonstate prices.
