Returning recently from a trip to Egypt with specialist operator Destination Red Sea, it struck me just how small the world has become. Just four hours after leaving the massive temples of Luxor, I was walking around one of your temples of consumerism, t he supermarket superstore. It was in England rather than Egypt that the culture shock hit me.

Arriving in Luxor, after two days of the dusty decay of Cairo, was something of a relief. The tidy streets and neat, clean kerbs which run parallel to the Nile are fully reminiscent of home.
