THE BROADER PICTURE

TWO BIG STORIES have been dominating our news in print, voice, and image: the missile deal between the superpowers, and the Gulf War. It is important, I believe, to see these stories not separately, but together in the context of world strategy.

I have mixed views about the arms deal. One indisputably good point about it is that it proves the value of firmness in such matters. Consider the situation as it was a few short years ago.
