COUNTRYSIDE campaigners are calling on the tourist industry and Nuneaton and Bedworth borough council to recognise what is left of "George Eliot Country".

They want to see preserved the countryside which inspired many of the Victorian writer's novels.

The Warwickshire branch of the Council for the Protection of Rural England says the borough council, and the George Eliot Fellowship, should play a more active role in helping to preserve what remains of Nuneato...
