Allograft bone combined with human bone morphogenetic protein (hBMP) is an effective structural graft component for previous failed unions of fractures of the humerus (upper arm), according to University of California-Los Angeles School of Medicine researchers.

At the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons annual meeting in March, Eric Johnson, MD and colleagues reported on 14 female and 4 male patients with resistant nonunions of the humerus who received internal fixation combined with hBMP.
