After such diverse events as the recent G8 Summit meeting and the Eurovision Song Contest the international high profile of Birmingham is being raised even higher next week.

From this Monday until July 3, Lions Clubs International will hold their 81st international Convention in Birmingham. This is the first time the event, which is one of the largest conventions in the world, is to be held in England, and only the second ti me to be held in Europe since France in 1962.

Most activities will take place at the Arena in Birmingham's National Exhibition Centre at Bickenhill ...
