THE Stormont talks' deadlock, which is blocking a deal on Assembly and cross-border structures, produced conflicting signals from some of the key players yesterday.

Top-level meetings in London and Dublin failed to push the process significantly forward, although Ulster Unionist John Taylor emerged from talks with Tony Blair to say that the parties were "within an ace" of agreement.
