Elizabeth Frink was a creature of her time. Born in 1930 as Europe recovered from one devastating war, and prepared for a second, she was a daughter of Huguenots who had brought their Protestantism to England and established themselves as country gentry.
Her father Ralph was an army man, a dashing horseman who served in India before returning to duties in England as war clouds gathered across Germany.
