ITH just a week to go to her wedding day, Stephanie Tyers still hadn't found anything to wear. One afternoon, she nipped out of work in her lunch hour and spotted it - a white cotton dress, in a neat size 10 nestled at the back of a boutique.

"It was perfect," says Stephanie, then 27. "When I tried it on, it fitted like a glove."

At pounds 300, in 1983, it was the most expensive outfit Stephanie had ever bought. But she loved the cotton dress with its short sleeves, lace bodice and lace detail above the hem.
