A hero who rushed to the scene of a horrific mid-air glider crash and tried to save the life of a dying pilot has been praised for his courage and bravery.
Mr Robert Carruthers climbed beneath one of the crushed aircraft and lay underneath the pilot who was strapped in, lying upside down and bearing the full weight of the glider.
But despite his efforts, the pilot, Mr Ian Andrews, aged 44, of Kestrel Close, Stafford, died.
