TEHRAN: At least 16 people died and scores were injured in a violent earthquake which destroyed ten villages in southern Iran yesterday.

The quake struck the area of Shiraz and Kazerun cities in Fars province. The tremor had a magnitude of 6.3, according to the United States Geological Survey.
