Government's e-commerce laws a web of embarrassment.(News)

The Government's attempt to develop laws to safeguard Net-based business has degenerated into a shambles, according to a cross-party group of MPs.

The Trade and Industry Select Committee has just finished examining the proposals for an E-Commerce Bill.

And, embarrassingly for the Government, the MPs concluded that some of the Department of Trade and Industry proposals were "not fit to be written into law" and would be "a damaging and embarrassing failure."

The committee claimed the UK's reputation "for electronic commerce is now severely damaged" ...
