As well as climbing Mount Everest and reaching the North and South Poles, explorer David Hempleman-Adams can make the interesting claim he was stalked by a polar bear. It was not a happy experience.

"He was stalking me for two to three days on my Magnetic North Pole expedition in 1984 and I was going to be his breakfast," recalled Hempleman-Adams, visiting Britannic Assurance's Wythall headquarters near Birmingham this week to promote his attempt to reach the North Pole by balloon.
