CHURCH OF IRELAND SYNOD : Synod votes to end flying of Union flag; Guidelines 'may be waived by clerics'.(Features)

MANY Church of Ireland congregations in Northern Ireland are expected to continue flying the Union flag on their churches, despite the ruling from the General Synod in Dublin this week.
Church of Ireland officials admit that the decision taken by the Synod on the flying of flags is not a ban, but a guideline to clergy on the type of emblems that are officially recognised by the Church and should be flown. The decision carries moral but no legal force.
