The Government announced yesterday that it would accept the European Court of Human Rights judgment that the ban on homosexuals serving in the Armed Forces was in breach of its rules.
Following the ruling in Strasbourg, Defence Secretary Lord Robertson swiftly announced that all disciplinary cases still pending would be put on hold.
He said Ministers would consult service chiefs on how to put the decision into practice.
Lord Robertson said : "This Government, like all governments, has to accept the rulings of the European Court of Human Rights.
