Demand for diesel engines and parts in the US is projected to increase 5.3 percent per year to $19.5 billion in 2003. Growth will decelerate from the 1993-1998 rate due largely to moderating production of key end-use products such as trucks and buses. Parts for routine repair and engine rebuilding, which accounted for about 40 percent of total demand in 1998, will continue to provide an important source of revenue for diesel engine manufacturers.
