THE toll tax plans for Scotland's roads were bitterly opposed by Transport Minister Sarah Boyack.

The rookie politician's protests were quashed by First Minister Donald Dewar.

Then Boyack - who has just 12 weeks of Government experience - was left to sell the controversial Transport Bill to a sceptical public.

The London-driven Bill was met with a hostile reaction when it was unveiled earlier this month.

It includes measures to tax motorists for using motorways and trunk roads.
