The International Society of Electrochemistry (ISE) has recently celebrated the 200th anniversary of the invention of the so-called electric "pile" by Alessandro Volta, at a major conference held in the historic university town of Pavia, Italy, where most of Volta's research and many of his discoveries were made. About 500 participants from various countries in the world, including several researchers from Canada, were in attendance.
