During an evening in 1951, Willie Rosario was standing in front of the Palladium Ballroom's bandstand watching the Tito Puente orchestra in motion.

Puente, at center stage, feet slightly apart, was striking the metal sides, then the skins of his timbales to his composition of Mambo La Roca. For close to three minutes Rosario appeared mesmerized by Puente's drumming skills. It was at this moment Willie Rosario decided on a drumming career in music.
