As one of the European countries that has gone furthest in deregulating its railways, Sweden has a lot to teach others.
MR BO BYLUND, director general of the track authority, Banverket (BV), is emphatic that making a definite split between infrastructure and operations is the only possible way to attract newcomers. "There is no other way if you are serious about new operators coming into the market, reducing costs, and generating more traffic," he told IRJ.
