You may think your Christmas tree has lost its excitement once you've stripped it of ornaments and lights. But Elizabeth Kneiper knows otherwise. This lichen expert likes to examine Christmas tree bark to prove there is a world of life lingering in little-noticed places.

You can learn about "Lichens on Your Christmas Trees" in Kneiper's daylong workshop Saturday at the Garden in the Woods in Framingham. Participants are encouraged to bring in Christmas tree branches and sections of trunks to examine for lichen forms.
