CUBA'S WEDGE ISSUE? The Spanish ambassador fears that the Helms-Burton law has played into Fidel Castro's hands by allowing the Cuban leader to wedge the issue between the United States and Europe.
"Because of this unfortunate law, Mr. Castro becomes the arbitrator of relations between the United States and Europe," Ambassador Antonio de Oyarzabal said this week.
The law, aimed at punishing foreign corporations with interests in Cuba involving confiscated American assets, is widely unpopular in Europe.
