Corey Brewer insists he was merely a peacemaker.

Brewer, then 15, says he was trying to mediate an altercation that had nothing to do with him on a West Memphis, Ark., street in 1990. The next thing Brewer saw was the barrel of a shotgun pointing in his face. Brewer ran, the shotgun roared and Brewer fell in the street with a blood-soaked T-shirt.

That's gratitude for you.

He was shot in the back for his efforts, and friends immediately came to Brewer's aid, digging pellets out of his skin.

Brewer lived to play another day, and now he's averaging 20.8 points ...
