Tim Harding, in his column on the excellent Chess Cafe Web site (www.chesscafe.com), recently listed his picks for the 10 "most influential games" of the millennium, ranging from a 10th-century win by Arab chess author as-Suli to Garry Kasparov's title-saving 24th game victory over Anatoly Karpov in their 1985 match.
Some of Harding's choices are unimpeachable, including a pawn ending by Philidor and one of Morphy's wins against Anderssen in their 1858 match. Some are a little more inscrutable. Just how "influential" was Tigran Petrosian's nice win against Boris ...
