BASF is considering divesting its pharmaceuticals business, or the company may swap its drugs activities for another company's crop protection business, sources say.
BASF "is facing difficulties in pharmaceuticals" because of its small size, says CFO Max Dietrich Kley. The company is the world's 30th largest pharmaceuticals producer, but is among the top 10 in pesticides.
"BASF is considering whether it could sell the pharma business or swap it for one of the pesticides businesses on the market," says Tony Cox, analyst at Dresdner Kleinwort Benson (London). Sources point ...
