The contributions of the 19th-century missionary John Ross are presented, along with a biography. Topics include his evangelical work in his native Scotland, and an ecumenical mission in China that lasted nearly 40 years.

Although John Ross (1842-1915) is not one of the best-remembered names in the history of Christian missions, he deserves to be recalled as one of the most effective missionaries of his generation.
