ROCKY HILL, Conn. -- Joseph R. Ettore, president and CEO of Ames Department Stores, has assumed the additional role of chairman of the board. He replaces Paul M. Buxbaum, who will become chairman of the executive committee.

Ettore has been in the discount industry for 37 years and became president and CEO of Ames in 1994. Prior to that, he was the CEO of Jamesway Corp. Ames, the $2.5 billion discount retailer, currently operates 455 stores in 19 states.
