Petroleum marketers have increasingly embraced very small aperture terminal (VSAT) technology while phasing down or eliminating entirely their terrestrial landline communication networks. VSAT has many service capabilities and supports low-cost, two-way, data, voice, multimedia and one-way broadcast video communications between a company's headquarters/data center and its remote sites. Fifty two percent of the 58,000 sites owned or operated by the top 100 petroleum and c-store chains in the US are using some type of VSAT networking system.
