The King's Noyse, at Emerson Majestic Theatre, Boston, Thursday night.

Whether it was for cardinals, viceroys, princes or queens, the 17th century composer Alessandro Scarlatti was in demand at musical establishments all over Italy. His cantatas, oratorios, serenatas and operas were immensely popular and he turned them out with extraordinary facility.

The King's Noyse and the Boston Early Music Festival Violin Band showcased Scarlatti's music at their concert Thursday night, and even 300 years later it is easy to see what all the commotion was about. ...
