"Titanic: A New Musical," at the Wang Theatre, through June 20.

An architect's sketch of the RMS Titanic dominates the curtain of the Wang Theatre stage. But rather than offer a sense of the grandeur of this technological wonder, the drawing is, well, sketchy, which is also the fundamental weakness of "Titanic: A New Musical."

No one expects the lavishly detailed accuracy of James Cameron's film, nor is it needed, but creators Peter Stone and Maury Yeston are clearly overwhelmed by the scale of the story and end up leaving way too much to the imagination.
