Water disinfection can be improved through a method combining ozonation and biological treatment. The use of such combination can effectively delay the appearance of bacteria because of the longer presence of chlorine residuals. The application of this method can be standardized in terms of column size, media size and type, recirculation flow-rate and seeding period. It can help water treatment facilities comply with the stringent requirements of the EPA.
