Canadian Pacific Railroad Opens Freight Transfer Yard in Philadelphia.

Oct. 29 -- Canadian Pacific Railway, one of three major railroads serving Philadelphia and its seaport, yesterday opened a $1.1 million freight yard to more aggressively compete here.

The eight-acre yard at the west end of the old Philadelphia Naval Base will be used to transfer a wide range of mostly bulk cargo between rail cars and trucks.

"We'll be handling grain, corn starch, flour, and other food products, as well as things like plastic pellets," said Jacques Cote, president of Canadian Pacific's Northeastern United States ...
