As USDA weighs the federal regulations for the organic industry (a process ten years in the making), Japan's Agriculture Ministry plans to set a new and stricter standard for the certification and labeling of its organic farm products. The guideline will be based on international standards, and a ministry panel was expected to map out a set of proposals which would be submitted to its parliament next year as part of a revision to Japan's agricultural standards law, said sources.
