Mainstream broadcasters are balking, but local cable outlets said yesterday they are ready to run commercials for vodka, tequila and whiskey after the decision Wednesday by the liquor industry to end its decades-old voluntary ban on broadcast advertising.

The operators of cable stations Black Entertainment Television in the District and Springfield-based News Channel 8 said yesterday the liquor industry should be treated no differently than beer and wine makers, which already advertise heavily on television.
