White House won't release testimony.(A)
|
The White House has reversed course and now won't publicly release President Clinton's videotaped Whitewater testimony, set for Sunday, because of threats that Republicans might use it in fall campaign advertising.
Instead, the White House plans to wait until the tape is played at the Little Rock trials of three Whitewater defendants before releasing a transcript and possibly short video excerpts, aides said.
The administration's move was supported by U.S. District Judge George Howard Jr., who yesterday put the tapes under seal for 30 days.
