God Shammgod, the Washington Wizards' second-round draft pick in 1997, signed a contract for the NBA minimum of $275,000 for his rookie year. Although that may be a fortune for a 21-year-old, it's far from the multimillions that superstars make and is the central issue of the league's labor standoff.
"I'm far from rich," said Shammgod, a 6-foot backup guard. "I'm far from broke, but I'm far from rich, too."
