In 1956, the Stanislavsky Ballet danced in Paris, becoming the first ballet company from the Soviet Union to appear in the West. (The Bolshoi Ballet also appeared in London that same year.)

The company danced "Swan Lake," newly re-staged by its director, Vladimir Burmeister.
