BELFAST, Northern Ireland - Former Irish Prime Minister Jack Lynch, best known for a controversial deployment of Irish troops to the border with Northern Ireland during the first days of "The Troubles" 30 years ago, died yesterday at age 82.
As leader of Fianna Fail - the Irish Republic's dominant party - he served as prime minister from 1966 to 1973, and again from 1977 to 1979.
