Republican senator Orrin Hatch of Utah is receiving kudos for his proactive record on AIDS issues, but his compassion for people with AIDS doesn't seem to carry over to his gay and lesbian constituents. Hatch and Vice President Al Gore were singled out in August by the Washington, D.C.-based advocacy group AIDS Action as the presidential hopefuls with the best records on AIDS issues.
