Norman Rockwell (1894-1978) painted so well the small-town world he knew that the mere mention of his name conjures images of a quieter time. Family members, friends and acquaintances frequently were the subjects of his work, whether in the magazine and advertising pieces that paid his bills or the Christmas cards and more personal pictures created for his own amusement.
