Just south of Regensburg and worth a look is Walhalla, the German Temple of Fame built between 1830 and 1842 by Leo von Klenze, the renowned architect hired by King Ludwig I of Bavaria.

The temple seems dramatically out of place in the barren German countryside; it's almost as if von Klenze flew to Athens, picked up the Parthenon and deposited it piece by piece on a hillside.

The main difference between Walhalla and a typical Greek temple is that tourists can go inside Walhalla. You won't find statues of gods here, but there are more than 120 ...
