These are symbols of New England. Add to the list: ivy, institutions. Although higher learning may not immediately spring to mind when people think of the Northeast, education is a backbone of the area.

Since 1636, when Harvard became the first university in Colonial America, New England has been renowned as a hot bed of scholarly knowledge. Students from all over the country travel to New England to attend college, and international students come to experience its world-class resources.
