Library catalogs could learn a lesson or two from the service standards of mail-order catalogs--very different entities, but with similar service goals.
In order to keep up with our users' expectations, library catalogs of the future will be more interactive and will provide value-added services to interface with their contents. In my column this month, I will elaborate on this idea and use the Alex Catalogue of Electronic Texts as an example.
