Sep. 26 -- Even after joining the U.S. Food and Drug Administration as a top official, the researcher whose 1992 medical studies launched the "fen-phen" diet-drug fad helped a businessman promote the pill combination, an apparent ethical violation that the scientist says his government superiors did not find objectionable.
